This is a community-maintained Electron desktop shell, not an official DeepSeek client. It brings the Web UI, tool calling, and plugin system of DeepSeek Harness to the local desktop, and adds desktop capabilities such as a launcher, workspaces, windows, a tray, and updates. The installer requires no manual Node.js configuration or running dsh web.

• AI Chat: Manage workspaces and conversation history, view tool calls, approve operation confirmations, and edit or resend messages.
• Project Tools: Search and edit files, view code diffs, preview web pages, and add files or terminal selections to a conversation; the Browser preview supports toggling a mini-player within the chat area.
• Integrated Terminal & Git: Run commands in-app, switch branches, commit changes, push code, and create Pull Requests.
• Models & Extensions: Configure model services, manage MCP, skills, and plugins in settings, and install extensions through the built-in marketplace.
• Usage Stats: View cross-session token usage, heatmaps, and per-session costs, with support for exporting statistics.
• Personalized Appearance: Light, dark, and transparent themes, paired with a wallpaper gallery, frosted glass, and pixelation effects.
• Remote Access: Enable remote connections on demand and access desktop sessions from a mobile browser via QR code; by default, no remote port is listened on.
• Desktop Integration: Tray residency, app updates, and data import and plugin troubleshooting in the launcher.

How It Works

• Local-first: Conversations, settings, and plugin configuration are stored in the desktop-specific dsh-home, separate from the official CLI's ~/.dsh.
• Unified workspace: Chat, files, Browser, Diff, terminal, and Git collaborate around the current workspace; file references and terminal selections can be sent directly back to the Composer.
• Extensible runtime: Model services, MCP, skills, and plugins are provided by the DeepSeek Harness plugin mechanism; native desktop features are accessed through controlled desktop plugins.
• Desktop security boundary: High-risk tool operations follow Harness's approval and permission policies; remote features require explicit user opt-in.

Public distribution is primarily via Windows x64 installers; other platforms can be run or built from source per the instructions below. See Releases for version and changelog details.

[!NOTE] The Windows installer is not yet digitally signed, and the system may show a security warning. Please download only from this repository; the release page provides SHA512SUMS.txt for verifying file integrity.

Getting Started

1. Install and open the app; wait for the launcher to load the main UI.
2. Set up your model service and API key in settings.
3. Pick a project folder as workspace, or start a workspace-free session, and begin chatting.

If you've used the official CLI, select the data to migrate on the launcher's "Import" page.

FAQ

Do I need to prepare my own API key?

You must configure an API key for your model service. This project does not provide model quota; fees are charged by the provider.

How do I upgrade?

The app checks for updates on launch; you can also overwrite-install a new build. Upgrades typically preserve data, but back up your data directory first.

When migrating from the official CLI or an earlier desktop version, use the launcher's "Import" instead of overwriting the database or copying the profiles directory. Re-add your workspace paths after import to find existing sessions.

Where is data stored?

The desktop app uses a separate data directory and does not read the official CLI's ~/.dsh directly. You can view it via "Settings → About → Open runtime directory".

App won't start after plugin install?

Disable the faulty plugin via the launcher's plugin troubleshooter, then restart. Old dshbot versions may be incompatible with newer Harness; you can disable them the same way without deleting configs or sessions.

Running from Source

Development environment: Windows 10+ or macOS 14+ (Apple Silicon), Node.js 22.19+ (22.x) or 24+, pnpm 11.

First run builds the in-repo Harness, which is slow. The source build shares the installed app's single-instance lock; quit the installed app (incl. tray) before starting.
