DSH Desktop integrates the local Web UI, Host service, and plugin system of DeepSeek Harness into a native desktop application. The project pins a specific upstream version and runs it as-is; DSH Desktop provides the window, tray, terminal, updates, and workspace configuration, and combines them with upstream capabilities through the plugin mechanism provided by DeepSeek Harness.

The current official installer supports Windows x64 and macOS Universal. No additional environment is required — just download, install, and get started with one click.

First-Run Setup, Browser, and LAN Access

On first normal launch of an uninitialized profile, the native Setup Wizard provided by Desktop is shown first. It can set window mode and system material, plugin market, notifications, whether to auto-open in the system default browser, and Web access scope; it can also be skipped directly. Before the wizard is completed or skipped, neither the Host nor the main DSH window will start. Completed or skipped state is recorded per profile; an explicit recovery launch still enters the recovery assistant first.

Web service listens on loopback only by default. Enabling "Open in browser" makes Desktop pass the URL to the system default browser once the service is ready; this does not change network exposure. "Desktop Settings" shows the actual local URL. LAN access is a separate optional setting; when on, it also shows the current LAN URL.

Danger: Opening to the LAN provides no authentication; everyone on the same LAN can open DSH directly and operate your computer. Please enable this only with extreme caution on networks you fully trust.

Fixed-version check requests for automatic updates carry the currently installed version in the X-DSH-Desktop-Version header, stable or beta in X-DSH-Desktop-Channel, and a locally generated, persistently stored random UUID in the X-DSH-Desktop-Installation-Id header; this is not an identifier derived from hardware information. Installer downloads carry the channel and X-DSH-Desktop-Target-Version, but the download request and its redirects do not carry the installation identifier or the current version.

Plugin Ecosystem

Plugins are extension packs that add capabilities to DSH—models, tools, UI, workflows, all plugin-izable, freely combined like building blocks.

DSH Desktop does not modify the upstream source code, nor is it a fixed, hard-coded shell. The pinned upstream DeepSeek Harness runs as-is; the desktop shell itself — windows, tray, terminal, updates, and workspaces — is integrated as a DSH plugin and combines with upstream capabilities through the plugin mechanism provided by DeepSeek Harness into a single runtime. From the core agent to the desktop shell, the entire product follows the same "everything is a plugin" rule: plugins compatible with the pinned upstream version can be used, and desktop capabilities are also composed, replaced, and evolved in the same plugin style.

We want plugins to work like mobile apps: same rules, installed together, no interference.

For Developers

Unlike many other projects, this project itself is a DSH plugin: the desktop shell and third-party plugins use the same plugin composition mechanism. Desktop's plugin capabilities are already available for use. We provide Desktop services that let plugin developers integrate their plugins with desktop capabilities: for example, viewing and switching workspaces, or installing, updating, and removing plugins in the current workspace. Relationship with DeepSeek Harness

DSH Desktop is an independent community project built on DeepSeek Harness and the Cordis plugin philosophy, aimed at providing an open, composable DSH desktop experience.

This repository is community-maintained; no DeepSeek staff or upstream official team members participate in this project. Upstream contributors on the GitHub Contributors page come from the forked commit history; such attribution only reflects commit origin and does not imply any affiliation, partnership, license, or endorsement.

The upstream project provides the core agent capabilities, plugin system, and Web UI; DSH Desktop is mainly responsible for:

• Desktop application packaging
• Starting, stopping, and recovering local services
• Desktop window and system tray integration
• macOS and Windows installer builds and releases
• An interface experience better suited to desktop use

To run DeepSeek Harness from the command line or contribute to its core features, check the upstream repository first.

Development

The stable and Beta desktop packages are located in dsh-plugin-desktop/ and dsh-plugin-desktop-beta/ respectively. The outer repository uses Yarn, while the pinned deepseek-harness/ submodule continues to use its own pnpm workspace. Run from the repository root:
