This is the dsh plugin version of OpenWrite. DeepSeek Harness provides the agent and interaction UI, while OpenWrite Core provides novel-domain capabilities; characters, settings, outlines, prose, and reviews are stored in a local work directory.

Quick Install

0.2.10 standard plugin package is compatible with dsh 0.1.2-rc.1. The downloadables, three-platform acceptance results, and SHA-256 are as listed in the GitHub Release attachments; see Release acceptance for acceptance procedures. The npm latest channel is used by default; for the exact pre-release compatibility, validation scope, and installation limits required by the marketplace, see DSH STORE integration.

0.2.10 has been published to both npm latest and GitHub Release, and the installers have identical SHA-256 values. You can also install the exact-version release package:

If you already have a matching version of dsh, run:

@latest picks the newest npm release when running install or upgrade commands and will not automatically replace the running service. No source compilation is needed at install time. Before upgrading, stop dsh and verify the target version's host compatibility notes. To reproduce or roll back, use exact versions such as dsh-openwrite@0.2.8; the npm package and prebuilt Release package for the corresponding version are the same accepted artifact.

First use downloads a pinned version of uv, Python 3.12, and locked dependencies, stored in this dsh instance's dedicated directory. No preinstalled Python is required, and no need to clone two branches. Target platforms are macOS arm64/x64, Linux x64, and Windows x64; per-platform pass status is subject to the release acceptance report. Model costs are charged separately.

Getting Started

1. Run dsh web, open the browser address it prints, and click OpenWrite in the sidebar. After the environment is ready, choose a work directory.
2. The entry automatically creates an OpenWrite creation session; click Creation to open the workbench — no need to send a message first. The dialogue model is configured in dsh; the novel generation and review models are configured under "Task → Model".
3. Discuss the subject matter, characters, and outline with the agent; after confirmation, start writing chapters. Existing drafts can be brought in via "Task → Import & Export".

Existing sessions will not automatically switch presets. For detailed operations and workspace rules, see Workflows.

Configuring Models

Install and environment health checks need no model API key and do not call writing models. Converse, chapter generation and review require working model config; paid providers incur API fees.

• Dialogue model: configured in the dsh host, used for the OpenWrite creation session.
• Novel generation, review, and testing models: add a provider under "Task → Model", filling in model name, endpoint, and API key per the provider's documentation. Never paste keys into conversations, work content, or a Git repository.
• Work directory: choose your own local directory; the backend port and Python environment are managed by the plugin — no manual configuration needed.

Global model configuration from an older development install will not be automatically migrated into the managed environment; migration steps are in the Installation guide. Model connectivity tests may actually call providers, so distinguish them from environment health checks that do not call models.

Example: starting a new novel from an outline

Open OpenWrite, choose an empty work directory and complete initialization, then enter the OpenWrite creation session. You can send:

After confirming the outline, use /write-next to start writing chapters, edit the prose or add selection annotations in "Creation"; use /review-chapter for review, and view the diff before applying revisions. Generation and review use the models configured earlier. Finished drafts are exported via /export-book or "Task → Import & Export".

"Creation / Materials / Task" are the three main workbenches. OpenWrite Studio runs as the domain backend in this version; day-to-day operations happen in dsh.

Dev check: npm run check:plugin; cross-repo contract check: npm run check. The novel core lives in the native-core branch of the same repository, and is maintained separately from this branch. Engineering progress and verification records are kept in GOAL.md.

License and Sources

The project is licensed under Apache-2.0. oh-story-* skills and the bundled editor retain the original licenses in their respective directories. The logo is based on the OpenWrite native-core branch with adjusted light/dark theme colors; it is based on DeepSeek Harness, and the graph integration uses dsh-dog.
